View Full Version : Google (etc) vs Altavista

I have been very dissatisfied with my results from Google. So I tried
others like Yahoo, Hotbot, Dogpile, Overture, Search.com, MSN etc.. But
they all came up with about the same

Then I went to Altavista and I got very different results. I tried a
couple of other searches and still Altavista is the only one that gives
me significantly different results.

I know nothing about search engines. Can someone please tell me why
Altavista seems to be the only one using a different set of criteria?
And what is it?

I was very happy with google until about three weeks ago. The relevancy is
gone. I used to stand by google and think it was the best, now I am really
starting to wonder. Whatever there last big shake up was really made their
results unreliable.

You are wrong. AltaVista is showing the same results as Yahoo (they are
owned by Yahoo).

Are you sure?

This may be so, but the results are _not_ the same the way I see them (search
queries brought down to the bear minimum for this case):

<http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=zweefvliegen>
<http://www.altavista.com/web/results?q=zweefvliegen>

Alta Vista is owned by Yahoo but they tweak the results a bit
different.

There may be fluctuations and minor differences, but yes, they are
pretty much the same.
