You'll find they all do different things. I use IBP for ranking
reports, for instance. It does do other things but I find other
software does other things better. I use WebLV for link reports and
examinations. It works well and I can priduce reports with it, as I
can html validation reports from the CSE html validator (linter). I
use WEBCEO at the moment for traffic reporting and following. I note
Trellian have a suite which does tihngs along similar lines but I've
not got round to trying it out yet.
You really need to try them all and see what suits you best.
For advice on how to better optimise pages, WEB position gold will do
that, IBP will do that, there's stuff you can get from Planet Ocean
will do that. Which one is best is the one you have tp work out for
yourself as they all (sort of) do the same thing.
I prefer to work off my own check list but it's spometimes good to run
a page or a site through other software just to remind you of
something you may have overlooked.

Hey Bill... any chance you could post a basic version of that list?
I am very new to s.e.o. and really not sure what matters, and what does not,
not to mention I am sure I am overlooking most of the usual steps.

thanks for any advice, in advance...

Most important one: good content :-)
Next, pick a good title, and use semantic mark up (ie. move all fancy stuff
to CSS)

It'll be on my site eventually, as I expand it.
